How To: Configuring Your Firewall for Optimal Security

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Firewall software is a group of security protocols designed to keep malicious code and hackers out of your computer. A firewall protects your laptop from Internet traffic entering in or information leaking out. While antivirus software scans emails and files, a firewall acts as a guard dog, keeping your system safe from unauthorized entry. It also blocks communications to and from your laptop.

You can use two firewalls and stack them to increase the security level. Also you should set the level of traffic allowed to “recommended” or HIGH for the most secure results.

A firewall is a great way to cover holes in your security, but it’s not the entire answer. Firewalls won’t block spam or pop-ups, and they won’t kill viruses.

If you want full protection, combine your firewall with antivirus software as well as a personal VPN like PRIVATE WiFi™ and you should be covered on every possible front from spyware to viruses to hackers to identity theft to worms.
