In a scary case of mistaken identity, a New York man learned about the dangers of unprotected wifi after he discovered that a neighbor was using his wifi connection to download child pornography. According to The Buffalo News, the innocent man “was awakened by federal agents who battered open the back door of his home, pointed guns at him, and seized his computer.” Turns out the feds had the wrong man, and officers later arrested the neighbor. A U.S. Attorney apologized to the innocent man — and also warned wifi users to make sure their system is password-protected. The federal attorney said “all users of wireless Internet service” must learn that “there are those who may breach your privacy and use your service for criminal purposes.”
