How To: Managing Your iPhone Security

Smartphones, like the iPhone, have become increasingly important to our modern lives, and accessing account and professional content is shifting more towards mobile devices. The iPhone has security options that you can use, which are listed below.

Use a Passcode

Make sure that you are using a passcode onto your iPhone, which is the easiest way to keep someone from accessing the data on your iPhone.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Passcode and tapTurn Passcode On, and then enter a four digit passcode twice.
    Note:
    You will be prompted to enter this passcode when accessing your iPhone.
  3. If you want a longer passcode, in the Passcode Lock menu, turn Simple Passcode off, which changes the passcode from four digits to a longer password option.

App Store Password

If someone steals your iPhone, they may be able to connect to your iTunes and App Store account and spend money on music and apps.

Make sure that you only manually enter in your Apple App Store password information and do not share it with anyone.

Secure Email

Your email messages should be encrypted to your iPhone. This is set to on by default, but you may want to check this to see if any changes to settings have been made.

  1. In the Settings section, go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. Select the email account that you want to ensure the SSL on
  3. Go into Account Information and select Advanced.
  4. Make sure that Use SSL is set to On.
