If Cybercrooks Pounce, Learn Resources to Minimize Identity Theft Headaches

Crooks have perfected identity theft methods, and technology has simply made it easier for them. This article in The Knoxville News lists startling examples of both low-tech and high-tech identity theft methods, and it also lists several resources for victims of fraud and identity theft. An identity theft victim has lots of rights – including support from the Federal Trade Commission – but victims should not have to be liable for any of the debt incurred in their name. The article also mentions that “the victim’s problem often amounts to the hassle of filing documentation with the three credit rating agencies and struggling for possibly as much as six months or more to get their good credit name restored. Having your credit rating in the tank for an extended period is no small misery, but at least it’s unlikely a victim will suffer financially.”
