An identity-theft victim tells the Palm Beach Daily News it has been “insanity” trying to clear her name and good credit, and “the amount of time I have put in to clear my name is just unbelievable. It’s your identity. It’s your name, so you’ve got to clear it.” The article also says her experience is typical of individuals who fall prey to the crime of identity theft because “her name, Social Security number, and date of birth were used to open credit cards, utility, telephone, and cable accounts. All of this while the victim has no knowledge of any accounts being opened until past due statements and collection agencies demand payment.”
